The questions that decide
Before you subscribe, you deserve exact answers — including about what the free version does not do.
“Why a subscription?”
Because you live in your workshop every day, and the subscription funds the updates — no AI credits to buy back, no imposed cloud. But it comes with two rare counterweights: the free version is permanent (your trial, with no time limit and no card), and after 48 months of cumulative subscription, the licence becomes perpetual — the subscription has an end.
“Does my writing go anywhere?”
Your files live on your disk, in open formats (Markdown, YAML, JSON), with no account and no telemetry. The AI only sends text where you have connected it: a local model (nothing leaves), your own server, or a public provider with your key — and the estimated cost is shown before every operation. The three postures →
“Which AI should I choose, and what does it cost?”
Locally (Ollama, LM Studio): free to use, and everything works offline. In the cloud: your Anthropic or OpenAI key, billed by the provider at the provider's price — we do not resell tokens. The AI is optional: the entire workshop works without it. The setup guide compares the options.
“What exactly does the free version include?”
The Raw and Preview modes, multiple tabs, local search, every Markdown extension (Mermaid, KaTeX, footnotes, wiki-links), Markdown, HTML, plain-text, CSV and JSON exports — and identity labelling (one file). The Pro plan unlocks WYSIWYG and Split mode, the AI assistant, professional exports (PDF, DOCX, LaTeX, EPUB, JATS, manuscript), project modes and the profession-specific panels. The full grid →
“What happens if I stop?”
Nothing gets locked away. Your files stay readable and editable — they are in open formats, and the free version never expires. You lose the Pro features, not your work.
“How is my writing protected?”
In depth: backup versions active by default (a dated copy every five minutes), deletion through the system trash, a snapshot before every destructive operation, monitoring of external overwrites (Git, iCloud). These protections cover accidents; an external backup remains recommended — your formats lend themselves to it perfectly.
“How does authorship tracking work?”
Every passage written by the AI is marked in the Markdown file itself — visible in the source, in a Git diff, to any third party. The indicator permanently shows “100% human” or the AI's exact share. The marks can be removed at export if you wish; as long as they are there, they show themselves — to an examination board, to a publisher, to a newsroom.
“How do I buy a pack?”
From the app (My studio → Packs → Discover), with a valid registered licence: Stripe payment, an invoice, then one-click installation. A purchased pack can be re-downloaded for life, including on a new machine — “Restore my purchases”. The catalogue →
“Why not the Mac App Store?”
The Editor's licensing model (a cross-platform subscription, a single key for macOS, Windows and Linux, a perpetual licence after 48 months) does not fit the rules of the Mac App Store. The installers are signed and notarised — the same security requirement, without the intermediary.
“Can I migrate from Word or another tool?”
Yes — the Word, HTML and RTF import detects chapters and offers you a structured project. And the way out is never closed: your files remain Markdown, readable everywhere, forever.
