The straight questions

Including the ones where the honest answer is a little uncomfortable.

“Is there a subscription?”

Never. Loupe is bought once, on the App Store. Some capabilities are added through unlocks — themselves bought once too. We have seen too many analysis tools vanish along with their subscription: not this one.

“One purchase — how many devices?”

It is a universal purchase: bought once, the app installs on Mac, iPhone and iPad with the same Apple account, and the unlocks apply everywhere. Apple Vision Pro joins in for playback — including spatial videos in 3D.

“How much does it cost?”

The price will be shown on the App Store listing at launch — before any purchase, as always on the App Store. What we can already say: the full ×16 zoom is included in the app — the product’s promise is not up for negotiation.

“Does HD export invent details?”

Yes — and the app tells you so to your face. HD enlargement relies on a model: it reconstructs — it does not reveal. That is perfect for an image you want to share; where proof matters, trust the zoom, which only displays the pixels actually recorded.

“Are my videos sent anywhere?”

No — and not as a promise: as an impossibility. The application collects no data, has neither account nor tracker, and on Mac it declares no network access entitlement. Its models (enlargement, tracking) run on the device.

“Which formats?”

Everything your device reads natively — and much of what it refuses: MKV, AVI, FLV and raw H.264 streams are rewrapped without re-encoding; badly assembled files are repaired bit-for-bit. Some legacy or open codecs remain out of reach: the app names them instead of showing a black screen. The details →

“What about photos?”

On Mac, yes: PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF — with the same sharp zoom as on a video. On iPhone and iPad, the app opens videos; still images will come there later.

“Why is the app paid up front?”

Because an instrument is something you buy, and an honest price up front beats a free tier that cripples the zoom or tracks your every move. No cut-down version, no advertising, no data collection: you pay for the instrument, and it is yours.

“Is this editing software?”

No. Loupe examines, measures, captures, extracts and repairs — it does not edit. It is a loupe and a workbench, not an editing table.
